Dear Crossroads Church Family, One of our long-time missionaries will be with us this weekend. Dan and Sheryl Ingle’s ministry (Studio Ten Ministries) in Kathmandu, Nepal has been engaged in sharing the gospel and offering guidance and assistance in multiple ways for several years. They are passionate about seeing lives transformed through the power of the gospel, biblical teaching and community engagement. I’ve asked Dan to not only present an update on their ministry, but to preach as well. I know we will be challenged to press on in God’s Kingdom work as he shares. You don’t want to miss it! If you would like a glimpse of what they do before you come, check out their website at www.studiotenministries.org. DID YOU KNOW… 1. Don’t forget that this Sunday is Father’s Day! It’s a day that we celebrate all of the dad’s out there! 2. Our Dive Student Ministries team will leave Saturday morning for Costa Rica and be ministering there for the next week. Team members include: Darren Demis, Rich Gamble, Claire Carnes, Solomon Miron, Abigale Lee, Jobe Kaylor, Sarah Sexton, Kate Buckland, Grace Nellans, Shannon Buckland, Emma Hacker, Rachael Kaylor and Kendall Carnes. Please pray for this team as they serve daily! 3. One aspect of the Studio Ten ministry is providing women and impoverished families with life changing business opportunities. A specific business opportunity is the Guardian Village Handicrafts. This weekend, some of the items made by women rescued from abuse, neglect and human trafficking will be available for purchase at Culver and Plymouth. Check out some of what you may find available by going online to www.guardianvillage.org. The GVH staff will be on hand to take cash, check or debit/credit cards for the purchase of items. You can also purchase directly online if you cannot join us this weekend. 4. Crossroads actively supports gospel centered ministry in several places around the world. Our Global Outreach Team (GO Team) does a great job of maintaining and developing these relationships. One of our core values is “We value delivering the gospel to a broken world through partnerships local, regional and global communities.” Therefore, we care about what goes on in Nepal through Studio Ten. We care about what goes on in Haiti through Haitian Christian Ministries. We care what goes on in Bali, Indonesia through Pioneers with Fred and Abigail Lisko. We care about what goes on in multiple locations through Overseas Instruction in Counseling with Wayne Vanderwier. We care about what goes on in Chicago and Israel through Life in Messiah International with Levi and Stephanie Hazen. The list goes! These are regional and global partnerships. We also care about local partnerships. Read on to #5. 5. Local partnerships are unique because we can be physically present more often. We can travel for short term (like our team traveling to Costa Rica with SCORE International) to our regional and global partners, but local partners we can join with frequently. Regional and global partnerships are identified by prayer and financial support for those (missionaries and other ambassadors for Christ) who are there. Local partnerships are where we are! Therefore, we not only support with prayer and finances but we support with our physical presence…WE are the ambassadors for Christ in our local community! We are the visible representation of Christ to those in our local area. This is why Love Week is such a critical part of what we do! Our desire is to provide you with opportunities to be present; to show up and represent our Savior to our local community. To love others as Christ has loved us and boldly declare a message of eternal hope…the gospel of Jesus Christ. This weekend you’ll hear about all kinds of opportunities to jump in with Love Week (July 6-14). I encourage you to be present! Remember…Contact = Impact! 6. Our Community Outreach Team is offering a movie night tonight to those invited from our community. Pray for this night of reaching out and loving on people! 7. 51 ladies are participating in the Women’s Ministry summer Bible study. The study is on Genesis. Pray for a fruitful time of not only hearing, but also doing, the Word of God! 8. Me, Collin and Adam will be joined by our wives at our national EFCA One Conference in Naperville, IL. next week. I want to take this opportunity to ask that you pray for our denomination (Evangelical Free Church of America). Pray for our leaders and churches (our president is Kevin Kompelien). There are 1,344 churches in our denomination. The context of our churches is unique, the makeup is diverse, and yet, we are all unified by the one powerful and only Savior, Jesus Christ. 9. Due to conferences, vacations and Costa Rica, our office staff is light next week. Please have patience and sorry for any inconvenience it may cause. Dear Crossroads Church Family, Martin Luther once said about the letter written to Titus, “This is a short epistle, but it contains such a quintessence of Christian doctrine, and is composed in such a masterly manner, that it contains all that is needful for Christian knowledge and life.” That is a big statement about a short book of the Bible (only 3 chapters) and it’s why I’m looking forward to studying it together through the summer months! Whether you have read Titus before or not, I strongly urge you to read it 4-5 times over the next 8 weeks. Often times people ask me where to read in the Bible. For now, here’s your answer. Start by reading along in Titus the next couple of months. If you thoughtfully read it through 4-5 times and attend church faithfully this summer, I know it will help you embrace it’s message. And if Martin Luther is right, you will have a much greater understanding of Bible doctrine and direction for living the life of a Christ follower. Our study will be titled “Character of a Healthy Church.” As Pastor Rich mentioned last week, Paul, the author, uses the word “sound” five times. The word translated as sound is the word from which we get our English word hygiene. Paul’s concern in writing Titus was for a healthy and vibrant church to be established on the Greek island of Crete; a place known for dishonesty, laziness, immorality and evil in the day. In other words, there was not much different about Crete than what you would find throughout human history because the sinful heart of man has been the same since Adam and Eve first fell to their pride and disobeyed God. This means the message Paul wrote is relevant for us still today! So let’s dig in and see what it means to be a healthy church. DID YOU KNOW… 1. Pray for fruit from SpringHill Camp! Thank you to all who made SpringHill a huge success this year. 100 campers filled the campus and heard the message of the gospel and were encouraged to follow Jesus. Pray these young hearts are captured by the grace and love of Jesus and they follow him the rest of their lives. 2. Love Week is July 6-14!! Be ready to be “zealous for good works”, as it says in Titus 2:14, and join in the opportunity to express the love of Jesus all around our county! You’ll see when you read Titus, that Paul makes clear this is why Jesus died; to purify a people for himself who would be “zealous for good works”. Our excitement about Love Week, and ongoing expressions of love toward others, is tied directly to our gratitude for the redemption we have in Jesus Christ! Are you thankful!? 3. Graduation open house information is posted in the Connection Area on the dark brown wall next to the Journey Wheel. 4. We have begun to organize two search teams. One is for the Director of Children’s Ministry and the other is for a new position entitled Executive Pastor – Adult Ministries. If you have questions about those positions, please see the attachment with this email. There will also be a Talking Points available with the bulletin this weekend. As always, please speak with myself or any Elder with other questions you may have. The Executive Pastor role is key to enabling Marc Read to fully settle into his new role of Director of Communications and Events, thereby, improving communications regarding both Culver and Plymouth ministry locations. It’s also key in the ongoing development of our Biblical Counseling Center as Paul Spasic plans to step down as the director of this ministry at the end of the year. Dear Crossroads Church Family, What a great time of worship and prayer last week! I trust you were as encouraged as I was. This weekend will be a great time of celebrating our high school graduates. It’s a big transition in life and we want to encourage them as they take the next step in their future. Following Jesus in whatever their future holds is what they have been taught is the most important thing. I’m grateful that many of you have played a part in discipling these graduates. They have served us in so many ways as well. There’s a lot to celebrate! DID YOU KNOW… 1. Dear Crossroads Church Family, Ephesians 5:18-20 says, “…be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Crossroads One is this weekend! It’s going to be a great time of prayer and worship as we combine our Culver and Plymouth ministries in one place to worship the one true God! As Ephesians tells us, we will “address one another” with music as we are filled with the Spirit. Music is a powerful way to affirm truth. So, as we gather this Sunday and sing, we will be encouraging one another by the truth we sing. The Scripture says to sing and make melody “to the Lord with your heart.” That means with an emotional explosion in response to the truth the song affirms. Maybe this will be the first time you raise a hand in worship as you stand in awe. Maybe this will be the first time you turn and kneel in the middle of a song as you become speechless in humility. Maybe this will be the first time you get a little bouncy or at least tap your toe to the beat in all out praise. Regardless, be sure to strap on your vocal chords before you leave the house. Can’t sing? Doesn’t matter. Sing loudly this Sunday anyway! If you make a mistake, make it a good one so it’s memorable! We will also use The Lord’s Prayer as our guide to pray in the pattern Jesus gave. We’ll have scriptural reflection and a call to prayer as we pray for the things Jesus taught us to pray for. Come, ready to engage with our almighty and gracious Heavenly Father. Join in with others as we lift our voices in prayer together. Never prayed out loud in front of others? Doesn’t matter. Prayer is simply talking with God and all you have to do is have the conversation out loud. No magic words, just the right heart. Maybe this will be the first time you pray out loud with others. Maybe this will be the first time you pray with someone, not only for someone. We are earnestly praying for this weekend to be one of the most powerful corporate worship experiences you have ever had! Here are the details so you’ll be sure to join us. Where: Culver Elementary School (401 School St.) Parking attendants will help you know where to park. Time: 10am (one service only). Doors open at 9:30 with coffee available so come a little early to fellowship. Lunch: Bring your own picnic lunch and lawn chairs to enjoy a time of fellowship following the service. Offering: We will collect our tithes and offerings during the service this week since there are not adequate giving boxes available. DID YOU KNOW… 1. In just a few short days, more than 90 campers will experience SpringHill Day Camp! This Sunday will be the last day to register. Dear Crossroads Church Family, Our study this week takes us to yet another powerful scene in the prayer life of Jesus. In a sense, it’s the climax of evidence that Jesus fully experienced and understood His mission on earth. This prayer expresses desire and submission. As usual, I strongly encourage you to take a look at the text before we gather this weekend. Actually, three of the four gospel accounts reflect on this prayer. The one we will look at specifically is Mark 14:32-42. The other two are Matthew 26:36-46 and Luke 22:39-46. Read the account in Mark and, if possible, read the other two as well. What do you see is similar and different? What is the method, message and manner of Jesus’ prayer? How would praying like Jesus change the way you pray? During our Pray Like Jesus series, we also have some exciting opportunities to pray together. Next week, May 20-24, will be a week of morning prayer. I hope you will make the effort to join us each morning from 6:30-7:15am. Come for whatever time you can. What if we FILLED our Worship Center at the Plymouth campus with people humbling themselves in prayer before we sought to fulfill any other responsibility that day? How would God choose to move in our midst and throughout our county if we first pray together! Let’s find out! Also, next Sunday, May 26, is our Crossroads One Prayer and Worship at 10am. We will hold a single worship service this weekend, for both ministry locations. The service will be held at the Culver Elementary Gymnasium. I can’t wait to experience lifting our voices all together in praise to our King through both music and prayer!! Don’t miss it! Following the service, you are encouraged to bring all the fixings you need for your own picnic lunch to eat while we enjoy a time of fellowship together. This includes your own lawn chairs or blanket to sit on. DID YOU KNOW… 1. Several have offered to help with children’s ministry during our Crossroads One service. Thank you! Two spots remain; one adult volunteer for the 2/3’s class and a helper age 12-17. Email [email protected] if you would like to help. 2. In just a little more than 3 weeks, SpringHill Day Camp will be underway! May 26 will be the last day to register. Ladies, are you looking for a great way to connect with some other women this summer? The Women’s Ministry is offering a 10 week Bible study on the book of Genesis this summer on Monday evening. This Sunday is the final day to register so be sure to look for the sign at the TV kiosk to talk with someone and register. 4. Some members of our worship team are participating in a community Gospel Concert at the Wild Rose Moon in downtown Plymouth this Saturday, May 18. Trinity United Methodist, Church of the Brethren and Saint Michael’s will also have teams participate. Two identical concerts are offered at 4 and 8pm. Tickets are $10 and some are still available. Remaining tickets will be sold at the door. All proceeds go to the Marshall County Neighborhood Center. 5. Pizza with Pastor Scott! If you are a college age student in the area this summer, plan to join Pastor Scott and Kelly for a barn party at their home next Friday, May 24, for FREE pizza and some hangout time!
